Nickel-cadmium batteries are small dry-cell, sealed, rechargeable AA, AAA, C, D, small-cylinder or poly-wrapped cell packs used in flashlights, toys, cellular phones, power tools and computer packs.
They are recycled via a High-Temperature Metal Reclamation process, during which all of the high temperature metal contained within the battery feedstock (i.e. nickel, iron, cobalt, manganese and chromium) report to the molten-metal bath within the furnace, amalgamate, and then solidify during the casting operation. The low-melt metals (i.e. zinc and cadmium) separate during the melting operation and are collected as a metal-oxide.
The cost to transport and recycle one AA size dry cell Ni-Cad battery is $0.02 or $0.40 per pound.
Wet or flooded cell nickel-cadmium batteries cost $1.00 per pound to recycle.
All Battery Sales and Service can provide documentation of the recycling of your waste batteries including copies of the transportation manifests and Certification of Reclamation from the end site recycler.
